Trying to get the kids to use ASL in the classroom is a challenge. Mostly they just don't remember. But in an effort to get them signing we learned classroom words like "Pencil, glue, paper, book, etc" Then we learned "Can" and "Have".
Sitting in a circle we give everyone either a pencil, glue, paper, book, pen or felt. Then we go around the circle giving everyone a turn. The first person asks someone else (in sign) for whatever they have, and they switch items. Then the next person asks someone else for what they have, and so forth. This game can include colored felts and then they have to be asked for "purple pen" etc.
The kids love each having a turn, and for the shy ones they can "pass" and opt out. (But they still get to trade if anyone wants what they have, so they're still involved).
